The Resurrection of Jesus Christ - A Litany

O God of life and glory, who raised Jesus from the dead, we gather in joy to celebrate the triumph of Easter. Through the witness of the Gospels, we proclaim His resurrection.

Let us pray with faith and hope, saying:

Christ is risen! Alleluia!

For the earthquake that shook the tomb and the angel who rolled away the stone, revealing the power of Your victory over death:

Christ is risen! Alleluia!

For Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, Salome, Joanna, and the faithful women, who sought Jesus at dawn and found the tomb empty:

Christ is risen! Alleluia!

For the angels in dazzling light, proclaiming, “He is not here; He has risen,” and sending the women to share the good news:

Christ is risen! Alleluia!

For Mary Magdalene, who met the risen Lord and heard Him call her name, bearing witness to His living presence:

Christ is risen! Alleluia!

For Peter and the beloved disciple, who ran to the tomb and saw the linen cloths, marveling at the mystery of the empty grave:

Christ is risen! Alleluia!

For the women who met Jesus on the way, worshiping at His feet, and carried His message to the disciples:

Christ is risen! Alleluia!

For the disciples on the road to Emmaus, whose hearts burned as Jesus opened the Scriptures, and whose eyes were opened in the breaking of the bread:

Christ is risen! Alleluia!

For the gathered disciples, who saw Jesus in Jerusalem, touched His wounds, and received the gift of the Holy Spirit:

Christ is risen! Alleluia!

For Thomas, who doubted yet believed, proclaiming, “My Lord and my God,” teaching us to trust in the risen Christ:

Christ is risen! Alleluia!

For the disciples in Galilee, who received the Great Commission to make disciples of all nations, and saw Jesus’ power to restore and send:

Christ is risen! Alleluia!

For the miraculous catch of fish and the breakfast by the sea, where Jesus fed His followers and reinstated Peter:

Christ is risen! Alleluia!

For the forty days of appearances, teaching the kingdom of God, and for the ascension from Bethany, promising Your return:

Christ is risen! Alleluia!

For the Church, called to proclaim the resurrection to all the world, bearing witness to Your love and grace:

Christ is risen! Alleluia!

Let us pray:

Almighty God, who through Your Son Jesus Christ overcame death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life: Grant that we, who celebrate with joy the day of His resurrection, may be raised from the death of sin by Your life-giving Spirit; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Amen. Christ is risen! Alleluia!

Prayer of Adoration - Responsive

Glory to you, O God: on this day you won victory over death, raising Jesus from the grave and giving us eternal life.

Glory to you, O Christ: for us and for our salvation you overcame death and opened the gate to everlasting life.

Glory to you, O Holy Spirit: you lead us into the truth.

Glory to you, O Blessed Trinity, now and forever. Amen.

Prayer of Confession - Unison

Almighty God, in raising Jesus from the grave, you shattered the power of sin and death.
We confess that we remain captive to doubt and fear, bound by the ways that lead to death.
We overlook the poor and the hungry, and pass by those who mourn; we are deaf to the cries of the oppressed, and indifferent to calls for peace; we despise the weak, and abuse the earth you made.
Forgive us, God of mercy. Help us to trust your power to change our lives and make us new, that we may know the joy of life abundant given in Jesus Christ, the risen Lord.

Amen.

Assurance of God's Grace and Pardon

The Apostles' Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.  On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
Amen.

Scripture readings:

Psalm 118: 22-29 (NRSV)

The stone that the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.
This is the LORD’s doing; it is marvellous in our eyes.
This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Save us, we beseech you, O LORD! O LORD, we beseech you, give us success!
Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the LORD. We bless you from the house of the LORD.
The LORD is God, and he has given us light. Bind the festal procession with branches, up to the horns of the altar.
You are my God, and I will give thanks to you; you are my God, I will extol you.
O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.

Isaiah 65:17-25

For I am about to create new heavens and a new earth; the former things shall not be remembered or come to mind.
But be glad and rejoice forever in what I am creating; for I am about to create Jerusalem as a joy, and its people as a delight.
I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and delight in my people; no more shall the sound of weeping be heard in it, or the cry of distress.
No more shall there be in it an infant that lives but a few days, or an old person who does not live out a lifetime; for one who dies at a hundred years will be considered a youth, and one who falls short of a hundred will be considered accursed.
They shall build houses and inhabit them; they shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
They shall not build and another inhabit; they shall not plant and another eat; for like the days of a tree shall the days of my people be, and my chosen shall long enjoy the work of their hands.
They shall not labour in vain, or bear children for calamity; for they shall be offspring blessed by the LORD— and their descendants as well.
Before they call I will answer, while they are yet speaking I will hear.
The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, the lion shall eat straw like the ox; but the serpent—its food shall be dust! They shall not hurt or destroy on all my holy mountain, says the LORD.

Prayers of the People

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever.
Amen.
