Lighting of the Christ Candle

Call to Worship - Responsive

(from Isaiah 40)
The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.
He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength.
Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted.
But they who wait for he LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
They shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
Let us worship God!

Praise Song Medley: "As we gather" -  "The steadfast love of the Lord" - "Great is thy faithfulness"

Prayer of Adoration

Prayer of Confession - Unison

God of redeeming grace, have mercy upon us as we confess our sin. Charged to travel light, we overburden ourselves. Commissioned to preach repentance, we ourselves do not change. Cautioned to avoid violence, we are quick to confront others. Called to be reconcilers, we create divisions. As Christ sends us forth and equips us to serve him, cleanse us of abusing his trust and his name.

Question 53. How do we receive God’s gift of salvation?

God’s gracious gift is received through faith alone. “If we confess with our lips that Jesus is Lord, and believe in our hearts that God raised him from the dead, we will be saved.”

Question 54. What is predestination?

Predestination is God’s decision from eternity to move savingly towards us in Jesus Christ in whom and by whom we are chosen. As such, it is gospel, good news. We are chosen for a purpose, to be like Christ and to serve God.
