Call to Worship - Responsive
(From Psalm 30)
Sing praises to the Lord, O you his faithful ones, and give thanks to God’s holy name.
Hear, O Lord, and be gracious to me! O Lord, be my helper!
You have turned mourning into dancing, and clothed us with joy,
so that my soul may praise you and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever.
Let us worship God!
Praise Song Medley: "Lord I lift your name on high" - "Open the eyes of my heart" - "Holy, holy, holy (verses 1 and 4)"
Prayer of Adoration
Prayer of Confession - Unison
Merciful God, it is with sadness in our hearts that we confess how often we are so wrapped up in ourselves and our own needs. We forget who made us and why, we forget your daily grace and unremitting love, we forget your forgiveness of ourselves and our neighbours. We forget so much because there are some things we remember too well: perceived injustices done to us, times of betrayal and cowardice we try to keep hidden, moments of envy and pride of which we are ashamed. Forgive our sins, our sins of forgetting and remembering, and help us, we pray, to trust in him who buries all our sins deep in the tomb of his own death and raises us up daily to a life of happy service in Jesus Christ. In his name we pray. Amen.
Assurance of Pardon - Responsive
Hear and believe the good news: God is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. God reaches out to us again and again, that we might turn away from what is destructive and turn toward what is life giving. God reaches out to us with forgiveness, assuring us that we are beloved children of God, and equipping us to serve God and our neighbour in the world.
God forgives us, encourages us, and frees us to love others. Thanks be to God! Amen.

Question 57. What do we believe when we confess our faith in the Holy Spirit?
We believe the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of the triune God and is one with the Father and the Son. The Holy Spirit brooded over the waters of creation, and gave life to all living things; raised up and inspired leaders and prophets of Israel; conceived Jesus Christ in the womb of the Virgin Mary; witnesses to Jesus Christ; convicts of sin and enables us to confess him as Lord. The Spirit is the counsellor who opens our hearts to Jesus Christ and the comforter who has been promised by him to be with us always, “leading us into all truth.”
Question 58. When was the Holy Spirit given to the church?
The Holy Spirit was bestowed on the church on the day of Pentecost. Luke speaks of a strong driving wind and tongues like flames of fire to describe the experience of receiving the Spirit. The fainthearted disciples were given courage and power to understand and proclaim the gospel of salvation.
