Call to Worship - Responsive
(From Psalm 48)
Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised in the city of our God.
Your name, O God, like your praise reaches to the ends of the earth.
We ponder your steadfast love, O God, in the midst of your temple.
We will tell the next generation that this is our God who will be our guide forever.
Let us worship God!
Praise Song: "Psalm 150"
Prayer of Adoration
Prayer of Confession - Unison
Forgive us, O God, for our self-important boasting. We take credit for our strength without thought of your gifts. When honours are bestowed, we treat them as our due. We claim as our victories the triumphs of your grace. You shower us with blessings, which we ignore. You bring new life; we take it for granted. Deliver us from our vain ways and forgive our smug complacency. Turn our boasting to thanksgiving for Christ’s power within us. Forgive us, merciful God, for the sake of your Son, our Saviour and Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Question 51. What does it mean to confess that “he will come to judge the living and the dead”?
Confident that our Judge is none other than our Saviour, we confess that Christ will come again in God’s good time and judge us. We do not know when, nor do we know how Jesus will come. We must keep alert, watch, and pray, “Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!”
Question 52. Why do we say that salvation is by God’s grace alone?
God “chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world.” We do not earn or deserve to be saved; this is God’s gracious gift.
