Call to Worship - Responsive

(From Psalm 130)
Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord. Lord, hear my voice.
Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications!
If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities, Lord, who could stand?
But there is forgiveness with you, so that you may be revered.
I wait for the Lord, and in your word I put my hope.
My soul waits for the Lord more than those who watch for the morning.
Let us worship God!

Prayer of Adoration

Prayer of Confession - Unison

God of forgiveness, grant us your favour as we make our confession. You call us to excellence; we fall short of your confidence in us. You grant to us grace; we abuse your gift. You expect our decisions to match your desires, our love to be genuine in obeying your will. Yet we trust our appetites rather than rely on your goodness. We look to our comfort rather than to our neighbour’s need.

In Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us our sin.

Catechism for Today (from the Presbyterian Church in Canada)

Question 49. Why is Jesus’ resurrection so important?

It means that death is not final and that we too will have life after death. In a way beyond our imagining, God will raise us up and care for us eternally.

Question 50. What does it mean to confess, “he ascended into heaven and is seated on the right hand of God”?

Jesus’ ascension means his exaltation to glory with God the Father in heaven. To say he sits at God’s right hand signifies that Jesus “has been given all authority in heaven and on earth.” In his ascended glory, Jesus fulfils his promise to be with us always. He prays for us, and with the Father, sends his Spirit to empower the church for mission and is preparing a place for us. The Lamb who was slain is ascended, glorified and is worthy of worship.
